A FAB FAV: Purrrr… Honeycat Cosmetics!
June 7, 2010
This we all know: Beauty (with a capital B) doesn’t begin with make-up application or even stepping into a fly outfit. Of course it’s within, but it’s also that which God gave you and how you take care of it. You only get one body! So as a precursor to our upcoming show, we’re spotlighting many of our fab, favorite things! Splashing us with a Hot Flash is beautification bottled by the one and only Honey Cat Cosmetics - a Martini Pink certified haute bath, body & cosmetics product line with amazing scents, lotions, soaps, creams, candles and more, all wrapped up in the most divine pink packaging! We love it!
We had the wonderful opportunity of catching up with Honeycat proprietor - the fun and fantastic Ms. Terry who started her bath and body care business by mixing up sweet concoctions in her home and then trying out these sensually smelling concoctions on her fiance (whom after one too many times decided he could no longer smell like a sexy woman). Terry was forced to find a new guinea pig and began doling out samples to friends and family members. Before long she was taking full fledged orders.
Having left a career in medicine to pursue her entrepreneurial ventures was trying at first, Terry admits, “Whenever you leave your comfort zone it can be scary.” But that did not stop this kitty from learning her way around proper mixtures, the right ratios, and consistencies. Here she tells us more about Honeycat!
MP: Explain the kitty cat theme.
Terry: I love cats. They are so mysterious and sneaky. There is a long history between women and cats which dates back to ancient Egypt where it was believed that cats had a virus that would infect their female masters, making them sexy, desirable and irresistible. (No wonder Cleopatra had so many cats running around the palace). We created Honeycat to appeal to that inner catwoman lurking inside all us gals!
MP: There is definitely an element of sexy and sensuality to your product. Why did you not shy away from that?
Terry: There is a distinct difference between sexy and slutty. I think that sexy is attractive, pretty, something to be embraced.
MP: Why is it important for women to indulge in beauty products?
Terry: It makes us feel good. No matter how successful we are and how much we have to play the “good ole boys club” games, at the end of the day, most of us are still that little girl who likes to play dress-up. When we pamper ourselves, it’s like we can kind of get back to that special little girl that we use to be.
MP: Tell us about some of the new products you have coming out and when they’ll be available?
Terry: Over here at the Honeycat lair, we are always working on something new: ”Kitty Caviar” which is a strawberry champagne shower caviar (looks just like a jar of caviar), “Cat Got Your Tub” pomegranate cassis bath powder and “You Gotta Be Kitten Me” shower gel. These will all be out by end of July. We are also developing a few new lip glosses and eyeshadow trios.
Honeycat Cosmetics is available all over the United States as well as in Borders Stores and online at HoneyCat. We highly recommend the Calypso Kitty Pineapple Scrub , the Whisker Slickers “I’m in Heat: Lip Balm (which got us through the entire winter), and the delectable Sweet Potato Pie Grooming Day Bubble Stuff.
Box Office Numbers “Just Wright” or Just Wrong?
May 17, 2010
Common and Queen Latifah’s new romantic comedy Just Wright opened in theaters on Friday, May 14th and landed on the box office strip at number four taking in a lackluster 8.5 million for the weekend. Action-packed, comic book sequel Iron Man 2 held on strong at number one, followed by Robin Hood which earned 37.1 million this weekend, Letters to Juliet which scored 13.8 million this weekend, rounded out by How to Train Your Dragon at number 5 with now, a total of 207 million at the box office.
Just Wright may have come in third place for opening films for the weekend but it was up against some serious competition and only opened in 1800 theaters. In comparison, Robin Hood was broadcast in 3500.
Still, considering that Tyler Perry’s most recent flicks far outnumber Sanaa Hamri’s release, one has to wonder what is the fate of black romantic comedies? What does Tyler have in the script of Why Did I Get Married Too that Hamri was lacking with Just Wright? The cast was certainly of the same caliber. The advertising seemed to be there as Just Wright was on every urban blog and website with more than 200 views… Yet in still, the ticket numbers just didn’t add up. Sadly, Just Wright’s poor turn out at the box office could possibly affect the fate of future urban romantic comedies, unless of course, Tyler Perry is involved.
What say you?
Where in the World is Idris?
May 15, 2010
Because you know we’re always looking for Mr. Stringer Bell aka Derek (Obsessed) aka John Luther. Amen! The brother is working full time on a new series called “Luther” which debuted on the BBC1 earlier this month. Elba plays opposite his classic “The Wire” role this time around. He’s a leading police officer in this cop drama. Aside from this new weekly series, Idris is also highly anticipating the World Cup.
The sexy, moonlighting DJ was slated to play in a celebrity round along with Robbie Williams and other futbol enthusiasts but is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon (anything we can do to help, we’re there). However, you can catch him on the silver screen right now in the role of Rogue in the recently released flick The Losers. The Losers also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Zoe Saldana.

Why Don’t You Love Me?
May 8, 2010
B’s back at it again. Just days ago she released a video for the song “Why Don’t You Love Me?” Starring as B.B. Homemaker (that was a nod to “Mad Men” for those of you who check the series), B gets her sexy housewife look on .. a look that Sade is borrowing these days as well. Despite popular confusion, this song is from Bey’s I Am… Sasha Fierce album and was written by sis Solange. What do you think?

The documentary, which Rock co-wrote and produced, features discussions on hair with celebrities Maya Angelou, Nia Long, Raven Simone, Ice-T, and get this… Rev. Al Sharpton.
