This past weekend Toni Morrison and 300 people had a memorial ceremony in Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina commemorating those who suffered through slavery (and arrived at the port). The event, with African drumming and libations, also featured the dedication of Morrison’s “bench by the road.” Entire story here.

And in New York City, Double Dutch has officially been named a high school varsity sport. The season will begin in spring with the hopes of 10-15 competitive teams across the city.
