New Music Artist: Noelle

Clearly the first thing one notices about Noelle is her statuesque figure. She’s six feet in height, much of it legs. The second thing that jumps out from the Nebraska born Las Vegas native is her sheer confidence and positive energy, a necessity for any singer and songwriter making her grand entrance into the oft wavering industry of entertainment.
Despite the tough competition amongst female R&B and pop acts, Noelle is not letting anything stop her. Early successes include the single “Like That” making its way into the Jessica Simpson starred Employee of the Month movie, composing music for the “Eve” sitcom, and penning songs for Dr. Dre’s Aftermath roster.
A thriving solo career, however, is Noelle’s goal and thanks to her hooking up with notable producer Easy Mo Bee and En Vogue master mind Denzil Foster she may be well on her way. Noelle recently went public during her Martini Pink interview… all over her It’s Personal album.
MP: Having lived a long time in Las Vegas, did you run in the same circles as Ne-Yo?
Noelle: I didn’t meet Ne-Yo until I moved to California. We happened to be at the same place writing and working with the same person at the same time and I didn’t even know he was from Vegas until he told me. And we actually did two songs together during that time period.
MP: You met Denzil Foster in Los Angeles. How did you get from Las Vegas to Los Angeles?
Noelle: I graduated from school in Virginia where I was on a basketball scholarship. Upon graduation I moved back to Las Vegas and I said, I think I’ll sing six nights a week. I ended up at the Excalibur, the Paris hotel and the Luxor and saved my money for the move to L.A. So when I moved to L.A., I didn’t know anyone and I just started networking. I didn’t even know who Denzil was at the time but after our meeting I learned that he made stars. So Denzil and I worked together for two years before my package was sent over to Easy Mo Bee.
MP: So you’re now signed to Easy Mo Bee Records and the album is called “It’s Personal.” What’s personal?
Noelle: Well, we were just trying to find a name for that album and I couldn’t think of anything. And one day I was in the kitchen with Denzil and I was going off, venting about the difficulties of the business and I just screamed out, “this is personal” and he was like “that’s a good title!” And it just fit because it just is… personal. And if you think the title might seem like there is some drama, it’s not that. It’s a lot of different subject matters that still make you feel good in a way. If you like R&B, you’re going to get that. If you like pop, you’re going to get that. If you like you don’t know what it is, you’re going to get that too!
MP: What is the most discouraging aspect of pursuing your craft and what is the most rewarding?
Noelle: The most discouraging is probably working with people who don’t know how to stick with it. A lot of time, if you put something out there and it doesn’t work out instantly, people lose faith and abandon you before you’ve done everything you can do. So the most discouraging is definitely those who lack the perseverance gene. And the encouraging thing is when the average person who doesn’t know you and doesn’t know anything about you finds something in you that they can appreciate and relate to in your work. That is definitely the most encouraging especially since I make music so people can feel good and get something from it.
MP: Your style is crafted obviously. You like chunky jewelry and a colorful pallet of clothing. What inspires your fashion choices?
Noelle: Yeah I make stuff up. I’m kind of thrifty. I’ve shied away from a lot of lines because I’m so tall and I feel like they’re not going to fit me. So I do the boutique thing. Sometimes I go to thrift stores but I always keep a big pair of earrings and bracelets so you hear me jingling. Oh and I always wear a pair of heels so when you see me out, I’ll be 6’3” of 6’4”.
Noelle’s debut album It’s Personal arrives in stores and on iTunes on December 16th. Listen to the first single “Do It” here: Noelle \”Do It\”
